Can anyone explain how time works in this game?
So I had an issue early on that's kinda ruined my experience. When I found the gith woman locked in the cage, I talked the tieflings into moving, but then I couldn't figure out how to target the cage, so I assumed there must be a release. I started looking around, and as soon as she was out of site, like literally I barely went anywhere, she had gotten herself out and killed the tieflings (who had already left). I reloaded to a save before I had found her, but she was already gone. Now I'm stuck with a party of three and 8 hours in, I'm paranoid that if I leave an area, or start another story line that whatever I'm doing will just be undone and my saves won't be able to help me. Was this a glitch? Do key events rewrite your past saves? I just want to know what to expect. I've run into countless glitches so far (PS5) and it's been a huge shock in the quality I'm seeing vs how BG3 is talked about. I really want to like it, but it's been kind of a nightmare thus far.
Question from user coriandor at BaldursGate3 at reddit.
Answer:
While the game does not have a ticking time limit, it does use proximity and resting to progress time-related things. The timer starts when the relevant event is discovered, and in your case, it was Laezels cage. Moving too far away, moving your entire party to your camp, or resting will progress the event. There are few time-sensitive events in this game, and it appears you ran into one of the earlier ones. In general, if the situation seems urgent, its best to take care of it while youre in the area.
