Question(s) about level 1 wizard multiclassing
I've seen a bunch of other posts about this topic, but I figured I'd make my own instead of spamming a dead post with new questions.
I, as a sorcerer character, want to put 1 rank into wizard for the ability to scribe scrolls and swap out spells at will outside of combat, but from what I gathered there are a couple of things to keep in mind.
First off is the fact that any spell learned through wizardry, scribed from scrolls or picked while leveling up as a wizard, would use intelligence as the casting stat, making it less useful for a sorcerer, whose casting stat is charisma. I don't even think any of the other classes use intelligence as the casting stat, except maybe the rogue.
This doesn't seem too big a deal to me because I was going to just use the wizard spells for utility. Things like arcane lock, knock, applying buffs, debuffs, conditions and so on, so things where I would reckon low intelligence doesn't matter.
But I'm also new to this game and I've only completed it once, which was with very little use of magic, so is there something else I might not have thought of? Does the casting stat affect the DC of a target's saving throw or something like that?
What downsides are there to having low intelligence when casting wizard spells and when do and don't these downsides apply?
Question from user The-Art-of-Silence at BaldursGate3 at reddit.
Answer:
its a pretty big deal. you gain a ton of extra points on your attack roll from main stat later on. .
near end game chr attack rolls will be getting like +9 and your int rolls will get +0 (assuming int is at 10). spell DC is also effected by this, so even non-attack rolls have a way lower chance to hit.
