Why don't I love my Dragonborn as I did my Argonians?

I can't pinpoint what it is, but I had a fantastic time playing lizard people in Morrowind, Oblivion and Skyrim. It felt different, fun and interesting. The racial traits didn't matter to me - I just liked running around as a lizard with a spear, or casting spells, or just seeing the sights.


I don't know what's different exactly, but something just feels off when I'm playing a Dragonborn. I've tried about 5 times now, all kinds of different colours and voices and classes, and I don't think I've made it past level 4 before I just gave up because it feels wrong. They look amazing, the colours are fantastic, but I don't get the same lizard fun feeling as I did.


What gives :(.
