Act I, Astarion approval high, but romance not triggering?

For the tiefling party my relationship was not high enough and Astarion outright rejected me.


I'm still in Act I, just nearing the end of it and I finally got his approval up to high. I hear you can romance him even without the party, but his romantic dialogue is not triggering. Is there some other action I need to take, or did I mess something else up I wasn't aware of?

Have you had Act 1 romance scenes with 2 other companions? The game kind of only lets you have 2-3ish going on at the same time in Act 1. In one of my runs, my character had Shadowheart and Lae’zel’s romance scenes. I had enough approval with Astarion to trigger his, but it wouldn’t trigger until I had broken up with Lae’zel. Like literally the moment I ended things with Lae’zel, I turned around to Astarion and he propositioned me.
