Does Lore Bard get good at later levels?

Hey all, I know basically all straight classes end up good enough, but I am trying to decide between a pure sorcerer or pure bard. I have a paladin/warlock sitting at the start of ACT 3 and just got bored and wanted a caster that wasnt so 1 dimensional. Which is why I picked Lore Bard but after getting to level like 5 its just kinda ehh. I know sorcerer would PICK UP right now with fireball, but bard feels average. I want him to be a support CC character that will do damage sometimes but mainly controls the field. I just have started over so many times that I wanna go though 1 more time with a Dark Urge character and just finish this game. Any input on if Lore Bard gets good, but you just have to hold on or should I just go sorcerer to mainly hit big with some CC thrown in? .
TL;DR: Is lore bard good late game or should I just go Sorcerer?

Answer:
The main thing lore bard brings to the table is cutting words, which is a nice defensive tool for your entire party. In terms of damage output it will never compete with something like sorcerer, though it does get a big power spike at 6 when you can grab stuff like fireball and haste via arcane secrets.
If you want to give your lore bard more offensive power, you can take 2 levels of warlock for eldritch blast.
