How do you role play anything but nice characters?

I'm someone who feels bad in any video game if I am mean to some NPC. I'm also someone who tries to get everything in a single playthrough and try to pick the right dialogue option for that, rather than the dialogue option that my character would actually pick.
For example, Wyll seems like a good person but he wants to kill someone that I want to recruit. Also Lae Zel is an asshole so far yet I feel bad when I pick dialogue options that go against her.
I'm constantly nervous whenever I see the "X disapproves" notice, even if the dialogue option falls in line with what my character would say so I sometimes subconsciously pick something else.
How do you guys commit to a role play where you might be mean to a character you like or something?

Answer:
If you’re super sensitive, you’re probably never going to be able to be truly evil. I tried an evil playthrough with my BF and I was sobbing by the time I got to the owlbear cave. .
The more I played the game, the better I got at role playing though. I am a good-aligned character but being with Astarion has made my character be more open to deception - etc. as long as nobody truly gets hurt. (He still disapproves of my bleeding heart, but he knows what he signed up for haha).
Most of the stuff in the game is not black and white. Yes, Wyll wants you to kill someone, but that doesn’t have to be the outcome. And Lae’zel is a character that grows on you. You’ll see :).
Try not to overthink it. Start with a character that would react exactly as you would and go from there. Like I said, it gets easier the more you play. But most of all - HAVE FUN!!!.
