Why is killing Mongrels any different than what the poachers do?

I just find it completely hypocritical to hate the poachers for kidnapping animals, and from our player's POV, we don't even know if they kill them or not. Sorry not everyone has the opportunity to keep a giant portal to another dimension perfect for animals so they use cages just as humans use kettles. Our character is under the impression this is wrong and the poachers need punishment. I dont want NPCs to get killed by Vampire Attacks in Dawnguard

I bought Dawnguard before ending a questline from Skyrim. Because of that, I often visit main cities to do some quests. Every time I visit a city, I find dead bodies of NPCs that I talked to earlier. The story could open with the main character just sat at home somewhere or even as a professor and reading the daily prophet and reads that there is a threat against Hogwarts. I think if they added the game to be able to read the last games save data to find out where you were in the previous game (like house, friendships, and spells etc) it would make it more interesting to see the person you’ve played as grow up.
