Can I tell if an enemy is out of range in Elden Ring?

I'm playing as an Astrologer, so my main means of attack is to cast spells from a distance, as I barely do any physical damage. However, I noticed that my spells have a certain range, and firing them at enemies beyond that range does absolutely nothing. That's not a problem mid-battle, since the enemies are trying to get close and personal with me, while I'm trying to get away from them. How do I save the Distressed Patient in Baldurs Gate 3?

I completed combat with Malus Thorm (The Surgeon), and there's a Distressed Patient still locked into the Surgical Bed. Can I play a single-player game alongside a multi-player party without one affecting the other?

I'm already playing a multiplayer game in BG3. What I want to know is. Can i NOW start a singe-player game by clicking NEW GAME on the main menu. If so, will this allow me to play my single-player characters without any interfence for the multiplayer game, and vice versa. From what I read, the multi-player game exists solely on the MP server it was created on, whereas the NEW GAME gets created on your local drive.
