Is BG3 worth it for someone who doesn't like the setting?

Hi, I'm a long time D&D fan, although most of my experience comes from the older editions (B/X edition and AD&D 1e are my faves), not much 5e experience (tried to run 5e campaigns on two separate occasions and various things got in the way).I know very little about Baldur's Gate 3, but everyone keeps recommending it to me, from close friends, random people I meet to even some of my college professors. I'm looking to start a new campaign in honor mode for myself. In my current campaign, I'm having a lot of trouble buying items from merchants, even though I'm collecting everything in the world to sell. Im doing my first real play through, and decided to play on tactician and would really like some advice/tips. So far i made it to the cove after finding the guy who can respec your characters. Battles are pretty challenging , but I’m making do. What are some general advice for beginners, and do i have to look up an op build? I hope not. 7th attempt at a solo honor run

And it worked, I just killed the elder brain with a wood half-elf gloomstalker.Overprepped inventory before climbing up. (Mods for more colors and bags).No companions or hirelings, just sneaking and shooting.The only hard fight was Ketheric/Myrkul; I ended that fight at 1hp.The netherbrain got a bit close as well since it mindbroke me several times. I recently posted about a scene that happens if you have Karlach consume a soul coin after transforming into an Illithid.
