Is Abdel Adrian just book canon or is he also canon to BG3?

I was going to play BG3 after I finished another game that’s taking up most of the storage on my SSD but I reached a slow point in that game so I was thinking of trying BG1 and BG2 first.


So I saw that apparently there were Baldur’s Gate books and it had a canon character called Abdel Adrian who apparently makes a bunch of the dumb choices. If I played BG1 and BG2 I’d want to do the canon playthrough, but I’m wondering if the games and books have separate canons. I’d definitely prefer to just use my own character but I’m a sucker for sticking to the canon decisions in games.

Abdel Adrian does have a couple of relatively easy to miss mentions in the game. Those mentions are of him being a Grand Duke and of being a great hero in his time.


He is not, however, explicitly defined in the game as Gorions Ward.
