This short - long rest thing is annoying and makes no sense...
Full disclosure, I've never actually played D&D, but always wanted to. And I'm only about 5 hours into BG3.
With that out of the way. what the hell? Why does just about every non-basic ability require you to short/long rest before you can use it again? You're really telling me my trained Paladin can only hit people with the pommel of his sword once before he has to take a nap? And can only do that a max of 3 times a day? And my trained wizard can only cast like 2 spells before he needs to nap too?
I don't get the logic here. Some of these abilities feel really basic and even underpowered, yet they require me to rest which can only be done twice a day for short rests and requires lots of supplies for a long rest. What's the point of this? Why not just have a basic mana/stamina system that recharges over time without having to use arbitrarily limited rests?
I assume this is a thing in tabletop D&D, but it doesn't translate well to games at all.
Question from user Swordbreaker925 at BaldursGate3 at reddit.
Answer:
Because its a game mechanic in DnD. In BG3, you have unlimited resting anyway, and in fact a lot of story stuff is hidden behind long rests, so they just really went all-out on expecting you to spam that rest button.
