Pokémon Selection Strategy for Emerald

I've gotten about midway into Pokémon Emerald -- completed the third badge (electric badge), and starting to get quite an assortment of Pokémon. Why am I unable to equip the Drakefire Pistols in Warhammer Vermintide 2?

I just received a pair of the Drakefire Pistols, but they are obscured by a red cancel icon and I can't equip them. I'm sure that the dwarf was able to equip them in the first Vermintide, and I don't see anything telling me why I can't equip them now except for the red text on the item name and Ironbreaker. Is there a way to prevent Nook from auto selling a spot in Animal Crossing?

My SO has that problem, but I never encountered it myself. It seems that Nook, when someone moves out, will auto fill the spot left with a random villager, and that in usually 2-3 days, sometimes even the day straight after the villager has left. That makes her mad because she wants to find the perfect villager, but gets stuck with a random villager before she could do a good amount of mystery islands to find it.
