Can I start with BG3 and skip 1 and 2?

I'm 60 and asked my kids what game should I try and they said Baldur's Gate. I purchased 1 and 2 off of Xbox live, but someone suggested I could just start w/ 3 since they can all stand on their own. And before you call me a slur or get mad, here’s why I think this: .- He is unsure when you ask him for a poly relationship with (Character), and he even asks if it’s because you haven’t “y’know” in a while. Anything from misty eyes and sniffles to bawling your eyes out will count! ?.I can think of a few (and mind you, I get really attached to the sympathetic NPC's in the games I play!):.Astarion's defeat of Cazador (and his reaction afterward), in the non-ascended spawn choice. Tore my heart out. Real tears were running down my cheeks. Neil Newbon was. unbelievable.Karlach's meltdown after defeating Gortash. Stepping into BG3 again. Honestly? I forgot how much fun this is! I just started act 3 and I’m a bit confused. I’m currently trying to romance laezel and I really want to try get the best possible ending with her. I talked to the emperor and I took the worm he gives you and consumed it. I ended up persuading laezel to use it aswell as we grow in power from it.
