Whats wrong with my Pokemon Go curveball?

So I've got pretty good at landing curveballs. Well, according to How to throw a curveball that's what I think I'm doing. But I never seem to get the 10xp bonus for curveball, whether I hit inside the target or not (in my example I happen to get a great throw). One of the many sprays available in-game shows a pink sausage holding a leek, and is commonly seen with his turnip-onion baby, seen here:. In Episode 2 Mission 6: The Erebus Reactor of Dusk there's collection of tall towers with metal girders connecting them all through the stage. Are the Highlighted destructible items in Diablo 3 significant in any way?

I've noticed that I come across destructibles (doors, barrels, other props) that have a kind of highlight, a double helix type of spiral with some effect. Do these items have any significance? Here's an animated GIF that shows such an object. Pay attention to the left hand side where a large multi-story wooden scaffolding has such a highlight.
